Dr. Ito will present a formal model and experimental evidence from Agent Orange victims in Vietnam. While prior research commonly finds that victims become more generous both attitudinally and behaviorally, his study uncovers a contrasting pattern: direct victims express greater empathy yet do not share more with fellow victims in a Dictator Game, whereas non-victims display the opposite pattern.
